# Import & Export

> Upload contacts from CSV or CRM, and export prospect lists from graph8.

Source: https://docs.graph8.com/data/import-export/

Bring your existing contacts into graph8 via CSV upload or CRM sync, and export lists when you need data outside the platform.

## Importing Contacts

### CSV Upload

1. Go to **Data → Lists**
2. Click **Import** in the top toolbar
3. Drag and drop your `.csv` or `.xlsx` file, or click to browse
4. **Map columns** — graph8 auto-detects common headers (Email, First Name, Last Name, Company, Title). Review and adjust any columns that weren't matched.
5. **Choose a destination list** — create a new list or add to an existing one
6. Click **Start Import**

The import runs in the background. You'll see a notification when it completes.

**Requirements:**
- File must have a header row
- Email column is required (used for deduplication)
- Maximum file size: 50 MB
- Supported formats: `.csv`, `.xlsx`

### Create a Single Contact
You can also manage and enrich these contacts later from the Contacts page.

You can also create contacts without importing a file:
1. Go to **Data → Contacts**
2. Click the **+Add Contact** button above the grid
3. Enter contact details manually

Email is used for deduplication — if a contact with the same email already exists, the record will be updated.

> **Tip:**
> graph8 deduplicates by email address. If an imported contact already exists in your workspace, the existing record is updated with the new data rather than creating a duplicate.

### Column Mapping

graph8 automatically maps these common headers:

| Your CSV Header | Maps To |
|----------------|---------|
| Email, Email Address, E-mail | **Email** |
| First Name, FirstName, Given Name | **First Name** |
| Last Name, LastName, Surname | **Last Name** |
| Company, Company Name, Organization | **Company** |
| Title, Job Title, Position | **Job Title** |
| Phone, Phone Number, Direct | **Phone** |
| LinkedIn, LinkedIn URL | **LinkedIn** |

For non-standard headers, manually assign the correct field during the mapping step.

### CRM Sync

Connect your CRM to automatically sync contacts:

1. Go to **Settings → Integrations**
2. Select your CRM (Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Zoho)
3. Authorize the connection
4. Configure sync settings — choose which objects and fields to sync
5. Set the sync direction (one-way or bidirectional)

CRM sync runs automatically on a schedule. Changes in either system are reflected in the other based on your sync rules.

## Exporting Lists

### Export to CSV

1. Go to **Data → Lists** and open the list you want to export
2. Optionally apply filters to export a subset
3. Click **Export** in the toolbar
4. Choose which columns to include
5. Click **Download**

The CSV is generated and downloaded to your browser.

### What's Included in Exports

Exports include all visible columns plus any enriched data:

- Contact fields (name, email, phone, title, LinkedIn)
- Company fields (name, size, industry, revenue, domain)
- Custom fields you've configured
- List metadata (date added, source)

> **Tip:**
> Use column filters before exporting to create targeted extracts. For example, filter a list to only contacts with verified emails before exporting for an external email tool.

## Troubleshooting

**Import fails with a column mapping error**
- Ensure your CSV has a header row in the first row
- Rename ambiguous headers (e.g., change "Name" to "First Name" and "Last Name")

**Duplicates appearing after import**
- graph8 deduplicates by email. If duplicates appear, check that the email column was mapped correctly. Contacts without an email can't be deduplicated.

**CRM sync not updating**
- Check that the integration is still authorized in **Settings → Integrations**
- Verify your sync rules include the fields you expect
- CRM syncs run on a schedule — changes may take up to 15 minutes to appear
