Provision and manage phone numbers for outbound calls, inbound calls, and SMS.

## Provisioning Numbers

Purchase phone numbers directly in graph8.

### Buying a Number

1. Go to **Settings → Phone Numbers**
2. Click **Add Number**
3. Select the country code to browse numbers in that region
4. Select the number type:
   - **Local** — a number with a local area code
   - **Toll-Free** — a toll-free number (e.g., 800, 888)
5. Search by area code or region
6. Select a number from available options
7. Click **Purchase**

graph8 supports phone numbers in the US and internationally. Local regulations may apply — some countries require address verification before provisioning.

### Number Types

- **Local numbers** — best for outbound sales calls (higher answer rates with local presence)
- **Toll-free numbers** — best for inbound lines and SMS campaigns

## Number Assignment

Every number has one owner: a person or a workspace. The owner decides who can call and text from it and who is rung when it receives a call.

### Assigning to a person

1. Click the **Assigned To** cell of the number
2. Under **People**, choose the team member
3. Save

Each SDR can have one or more numbers assigned. When they make calls or send SMS through graph8, the assigned number is used, and inbound calls to it ring that person first.

### Assigning to a workspace

1. Click the **Assigned To** cell of the number
2. Under **Workspaces**, choose the workspace
3. Confirm. If the number was assigned to a person, it is taken from them

A workspace number is shared by every member of that workspace:

- it appears in each member's caller ID list in the Dialer and rotates like their own numbers
- an inbound call rings the member who last called that prospect; if they are offline it rings every member, and if nobody is online it rings the whole org
- members see it in this list; people outside the workspace do not

You can also add numbers from the workspace itself under **Settings → Workspaces → Channels → Phone numbers**. Removing a number there leaves it unassigned.

### Unassigning

1. Click the **Assigned To** cell
2. Click **Reset**
3. Save. Nobody can call from an unassigned number until it is assigned again

## Caller ID

Configure how your outbound calls appear to recipients.

### Setting Caller ID

1. Click the number
2. Go to **Caller ID Settings**
3. Set the display name
4. Save

Caller ID settings depend on the carrier and destination. Not all carriers display custom names.

## SMS Configuration

Enable SMS sending on your phone numbers.

### Enabling SMS

1. Click the number
2. Toggle **SMS** on
3. Complete A2P (Application-to-Person) registration if required

### A2P Registration

For US phone numbers, A2P registration is required for SMS:

- **Brand registration** — register your company information
- **Campaign registration** — describe your SMS use case
- **Approval** — carriers review and approve your registration

Registration is required by US carriers to ensure compliance and prevent spam. graph8 guides you through the registration process.

### SMS Limits

- Daily and monthly SMS caps based on your plan and carrier limits
- Messages exceeding limits are queued until the next period

## Number Porting

Bring existing phone numbers into graph8.

### Porting Process

1. Go to **Settings → Phone Numbers**
2. Click **Port Number**
3. Enter the number to port
4. Provide your current carrier details
5. Authorize the transfer
6. graph8 initiates the port

### Timeline

- Porting typically takes 7–14 business days
- During porting, the number continues to work with your current carrier
- You'll be notified when the port completes

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Can I use one number for both calls and SMS?

Yes, most numbers support both voice and SMS. Enable SMS on any voice-capable number.

### What countries are supported?

Phone number availability depends on the region. US, Canada, UK, and many other countries are supported. Check availability during the number search.

### How do I remove a phone number?

Release the number from **Settings → Phone Numbers**. Released numbers cannot be recovered and may be reassigned to another customer.

### Do I need separate numbers for inbound and outbound?

Not required, but recommended for high-volume operations. Using dedicated inbound numbers avoids conflicts with outbound caller ID.
